1st annual HMD.GIF contest winner announced!
We’re pleased to announce the winner of the 1st annual HMD.GIF contest is the Texas Archive of the Moving Image (TAMI) with “girl dancing in the yard.” It was tough to pick a favorite among all the wonderful submissions, but this funky gal, dancing endlessly in a perfect loop, captured the heart of our judges unanimously.
This snippet comes from The Richard Eisenhour Collection, no. 15 – Summer Vacationsat TAMI. Shot in the 1950s, this home movie captures an unknown Texas family at home and on vacation around the state. At home, members of the family poses for the camera, showing off outfits and playing with the family dog and cat. Later, the family embarks on a road trip to Ruidoso, New Mexico, in 1952, where they visit Lincoln National Forest and Monjeau Fire Lookout. The following summer, the family travels to San Antonio, with stops at the Alamo and the zoo. Next, they visit Austin, touring the State Capitol Building and the University of Texas campus. Later, the family tours Galveston, visiting Bishop’s Palace, Moody Mansion, and the El Mina Shriners Temple as well as clocking in some time on the beach. These films are part of the collection courtesy of native Galvestonian and current Austin resident Richard Eisenhour, who discovered and bought them on Ebay. The full film can be viewed HERE.
A very special thank you to everyone who took the time to make and submit a GIF and to our judges Jennifer Proctor, Katrina Dixon and Antonella Bonfanti.
